Drupal Commons - First Look and Review

Acquia have been advocating the production of Drupal distributions for some time now - and have partnered with providers such as Phase2 to provide Open Publish to clients.

But today they’ve released their first in-house distribution - Drupal Commons. It’s designed to be a social intranet for organisations, and features modules such as OG, User Relationships, Shoutbox, Activity, Notifications and more - but with all the configuration done for you.

That means it runs as an intranet out of the box. I took a first look this morning, and recorded this screencast…

From an initial look I must say I am very impressed. Trying to get a site to work as well as that with all of those features has been a frustrating and time consuming task.. Now it is a download away.
